Op Shop IV: Spotlight on Urban agriCULTURE In one form, as a culture of eaters, we will be sharing time together at potluck dinners; in another form, we will be exchanging skills and knowledge through participatory workshops, presentations and working together. All of this is framed around the process of starting seedlings -- creating an environment which operates between metaphor and actuality. All of this is intended to work toward forms of seeding -- social and agricultural -- that can perpetuate. Even though these operate at different scales, there is no hierarchy. The culture of each of these are essential -- eating, making, perpetuating. We will be using the eight weeks in Op Shop IV to grow starts for two farming sites and a mini public learning garden in Nichols Park for neighborhood children to learn about food and farming. During Op Shop IV we will be demonstrating soil block making, seeding techniques, growing and juicing wheat grass (a nice short-cycle and edible), indoor greenhouse design and care of seedlings. This is a small sampling of a much larger variety of topics surrounding urban agriCULTURE that will happen in the space.
